Spring is in the Air: Is it a Good time to Replace Your Windows?

As the weather is finally getting warmer and both the Orioles and Nationals are both playing very well (thus far) it is clear that spring has sprung. And with all the excitement that comes with spring, the question on everyone’s mind is whether or not it is a good time of year to replace your windows.

The simple answer is yes. Spring and fall present two of the best times for window replacements because they are the “milder” seasons. Unlike the two seasons with more aggressive weather patterns, spring and fall usually offer fewer cold or snowy days and not very many hot and humid days, nor do we see a lot of thunder storms. Cold weather can cause some problems with caulking not settling well, not to mention the moisture we get from heavy rain or snow. It is also difficult to keep the house warm amid freezing temperatures as your window replacement is in progress. The hot weather of summer can make it quite warm in your home while the work is being done and scheduling may be difficult around busy summer schedules.

The truth is, however, that we work on window replacements twelve months a year, with customers looking to get the job done regardless of the season. Yet, we can still tout May and June as ideal spring months for doing the job. There’s an awakening in spring, hence the Broadway show titled Spring Awakening, the trees and flowers bloom and there is a zest that comes with getting out into the fresh air now that winter is firmly behind us. In fact, more new tasks are started in the spring than at any other time of year. It is, after all, the season for plans and projects, such as spring cleaning, as well as festivals, garage sales and flea markets. It’s out with the old and in with the new. And spring is also a time for celebrating. It’s the season of weddings, graduations and graduation parties. As Robin Williams once said, “Spring is nature’s way of saying Let’s Party!”
